OHM GURUBYO NAMAHA
DAUGHTER’S MARRIAGE

Ramabhadra Sastrigal was a devotee of Gurunathar. He is doing vaidheekam as profession and used to visit Thapovanam. Gurunathar used to ask him to recite Rudram Chamagam.  Sastrigal was very poor. He has a daughter at the marriageable age. One day a bridegroom came asking for his daughter’s hand and the marriage was settled. Though the bridegrooms family demanded nothing Sastrigal felt  that he needs atleast Rs.10000 to celebrate his daughter’s marriage. He did not have cash with him and his efforts to raise the money failed him. At last his wife advised him to approach Gurunathar for the marriage expenses. Releuctantly , sastrigal felt asking Gurunathar for monetary gains was not correct, Sastrigal came to Thapovanam and after seeking blessings from Gurunathar told his problem. Gurunathar jovially told Sastrigal that he is not running a bank to finance the marriage of his daughter. Then he asked Sastrigal to stay back and recite Rudram and Chamagam in Gnana pureeswarar sannadhi, which the Sastrigal did without need for further prompting. All the morning poojas were over and Sastrigal was asked to have his prasadham (lunch) and take rest. In the evening Gurunathar came out of his room and sat in a place surrounded by devotees. Sudddenly he asked the kitchen staff for a coconut which was promptly delivered. Everyone was wondering why Gurunathar asked for coconut when the coconuts for poojas were already there. But everyone felt something is going to happen. Then two bus loads of Gujarathis came to Thapovanam.  Gurunathar enquired them and the gujarathis’ told Gurunathar that they were on the way to Rameswaram and on seeing the board Thapovanam felt like having Dharshan of swamiji and stopped the bus and came inside for dharshan of swamiji. Gurunathar smiled and blessed them. Then he thrown a challenge to those Gujarathis they should break open the coconut with bare hands and should not use any instruments or hit the coconut over the floor. Failing to do the Gujarathis must pay Rs.100/- each and the winner takes all the amount collected so far.  The Gujarathis understood that Gurunathar is playing his thiruvilayadal and they were part of the game plan. So every one including the children in their group came tried to break the coconut , failed and paid Rs.100/-. After all of them were done Gurunathar called the sastrigal and asked him to break the coconut. Sastrigal was telling Gurunathar ” Swami how can a lean man like me break the coconut when all these persons with strength could not do it”. Gurunathar smilingly replied “ trying costs nothing. As a special case i will grant you one concession. You need not pay Rs.100/- if you fail to break the coconut.  Let us pray Lord Ganesha to give you strength to give you enough strength to break the coconut”. At the persuasion of Gurunathar    Sastrigal took the coconut and tried to break it.  There was a shout from the crowd “Oh God” when the coconut broke into two. Gurunathar told sastrigal well done as you broke the coconut take all the amount here as promised by me. Gladly Sastrigal took the cash and counted it. It contained exactly Rs.10100/- (Rs.10000/- for marriage expenses and Rs.100/- for travelling expenses).
